I am doing a PPC-oriented research paper for the travel industry. In
that context, my question is this: I am trying to get a best guess
estimate at the number of clicks and/or searches on the keyword phrase
"New York Hotel" during any given day or month through both Google and
Yahoo! properties (estimated total number and breakdown between the
two -- all engines and affiliates powered by each seach engine). I
have been using Google Adwords' "Traffic Estimator" and Overture's
"Keyword Selector Tool". Unfortunately, the two companies quote
traffic in different ways. For example, Google's Traffic Estimator
for "New York Hotel" displays approx. 50,000 clicks (not searches) per
day. Overture's Keyword Selector Tool quotes 925,992 searches (not
clicks) during the month of November, 2004. I was thinking I could
somehow extrapolate the total number of clicks based on
Yahoo!/Overture vs. Google market share, but it occurs to me that the
50,000 clicks quoted by Google may also include AdSense (i.e. not just
search engine clicks). Furhtermore, I can't get a handle on number of
clicks through Overture using just the number of searches data for
November, 2004 that they provide.
Let me see if I can clarify: I need someone to identify and use some
realistic logic to come up with a total number of PPC-related clicks
that are available for the keyword term "New York Hotel" from
Yahoo!/Overture and Google properties. I need to view, experiment
with, and agree with your logic. FYI, the practical use of this
information is for me to define a maximum PPC budget between both
Google and Overture properties for the term New York Hotel. Google
provides click data, Overture does not.
Generous tip for complete information and verifiable logic that can be
used for other travel keyword terms as I continue my research. |
