What did the character Gus Wheeler do to himself in The Dead Pool ?

The only reference I have found in online discussions of the film to
anyone doing anything to himself is a scene where someone sets himself
on fire.  I can't establish that the character is Gus Wheeler (played
by Louis Giamblavo), though.
