best bet to get rid of annoying malware such as this, is to use a
couple of programs:

1. Spybot S & D
2. CWShredder
3. AdAware (lavasoft)

Optional
4. HiJack This.

The combination of these three programs will keep you extremely
protected against these sorts of problems. Its not a perfect solution
but it is close enough.

This is probably the best way to go to try and get rid of these little
nasties. Unfortunately once you get one of the programs they can be a
little painful to remove them, as some of them use hidden settings to
ensure that they stay running.

Last but not least some preventative information for you. Run
ZoneAlarm and AVG anti virus (this is free for home use) to minimize /
prevent any further problems.

Regards
Martin.

When you get the hijacker uninstalled, it might be a good idea also
todo one of the following:

1) If you using Windows XP, install SP2. IE6 SP2 is the safest version
of IE at the moment, with add-on manager to enabled/disable BHO
(Browser helper objects) and popupblocking.

and/or

2) Use another browser when possible: Firefox
(http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) is a good completely free
alternative, which is extremely safe compared to IE. Opera
(http://www.opera.com) is also good, but the free version contains ads
on the browser.

Most of the malware out there (such as CoolWebSearch variant your
machine was infected with) targets Internet Explorer, so you'd be more
safe with another browser software.

you might want to install www.popupcop.com to stop IE from installing
crap from web. Also consider new microsoft antiSpyware as well. Both
will protect you from thing being installed while surfing.
