I am planning to setup an IVR system. I read some thing about how
Cisco Routers can do IVR and Voice XML. I am not totally clear though
as to how Cisco Routers alone can provide IVR and Voice XML support. I
am caught between Cisco 3600 Series and Cisco 5300 Series. I am not
sure which I should choose and what are all the components I need.

My system should essentially allow for a caller to call my phone
number, enter a menu item, then enter another menu item etc and then
get what ever information he needs.

I can't tell exactly what your question is. Have you definitely
decided to use Cisco equipment? Are you asking what Cisco products
you should buy to accomplish your goal, or are you asking how Cisco
routers can be used in IVR applications? What kind of telephone
interface do you want to use (e.g., analog, ISDN, T-1, VoIP...)? Do
you already have a server system that can drive an IVR system with
VoiceXML?

I plan to build an IVR system for a company. I can use a Server, with
Linux or Microsoft operating system to do this. I can insert a
Telephony card in it (Dialogic or Brookstore). Then I will need a
Voice response server on top of it. In addition I will need ASR and
TTS engines to do speech recognition and text translation.

The problem which I am facing is the licensing. I do not mind paying
licensing for ASR and TTS engines. But if I have to scale up, I will
have to pay heavy licensing for the Voice Response Server.

What I was hoping for is that Cisco Routers (3640) or 5350 claim to be
hosting TCL 2.0 and Voice XML compatible. I am not exactly sure what
this means. The documentation makes me believe that, I can use a
Router to do all the menu driving (Say or Press 1 for Accounting, Say
or Press 2 for Finance etc). But what I am not sure is what parts are
needed and which router is best suited for all of this.

What is the licensing cost of this. How much will all of this cost. I
plan to use ISDN PRI which will bring 24 lines into my business.

I am also interestedin using VOIP if possible, I am not totally
knowledgeable of this though.

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, I don't think I can help
