Henry Salt wrote an essay (or small book) on vegetarianism that
inspired Gandhi to convert to vegetarianism. it is called "A Plea for
Vegetarianism" and I would like to read the text of it. However, I
cannot find it anywhere. Please provide a link to the full text or
provide the full text in the answer. It must be something I can
access for free, not a library password protected site or something like that.

Wow...you picked one obscure essay, Elizabeth.

Henry Salt himself is fairly well-known, as is his essay. But trying
to locate an actual copy is another matter entirely.

According to the WorldCat database, there are only 4 libraries in the
US with this book: 2 in NY, and one each in Maryland and Rhode
Island.

Any of those states near to where you are? The library option may
turn out to be your only choice.

Unfortunately, I am not near those states. If anyone is and wants to
make a pdf of the essay "A Plea for Vegetarianism" and send it to me
that would be great, although I assume it is unlikely.

The Henry S. Salt Collection

Much of Henry Salt's writing is now in institutions or private
collections inaccessible to the general public. The aim of the Henry
S. Salt site is to collect all the works and material relating to
Henry Salt, the Humanitarian League, his influence on animal rights,
vegetarianism, environmentalism, and his literary studies of Henry
David Thoreau, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Richard Jefferies, to name but
a few. The collection, when complete, will be made available to the
general public in order that his contribution to social reform can be
fully appreciated.

We welcome suggestions of titles or donations of material (books,
essays, correspondence, reviews, etc) in any format to be added to the
site?s collection.

Hi Elizabeth,

There is an email option on this website. It didnt work when I tried
it, but perhaps you have more luck.
Can always ask whether they will send a copy, it is available............

Good luck.

We have a hardback copy of the book by Henry which contains it in our
library collection. We may be able to provide you with a photocopy of
this in return for covering our costs. It is not available anywhere on
the web to my knowledge.  Where are you based?
