How can I get a copy of the following children's book?

It's a picture book about a house built on a sunny little hill. On
the next page, it shows how the little house's surroundings change
after a couple of years. On the next, it shows the same scene several
years later. And so on, and so on, until the surroundings become
overdeveloped and eventually turns into a dense city-scape. In the
end, someone moves the little house to a new rustic area, and it's
happy again. I read it around 1979, when it was presumably a new
book.

Dear doctorchou2-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. You may
be surprised to know that book is actually considerably older than you
thought.

What you are looking for is the 1943 Caldecott Medal winner, THE
LITTLE HOUSE, by Virginia Lee Burton that has enjoyed successful
republication now for several generations. Incidentally, Burton also
wrote the modern classic MIKE MULLIGAN AND HIS STEAM SHOVEL, if you
recall that old favorite from your childhood too. (Seen here)

Here is a brief review and summary of THE LITTLE HOUSE:

?A gem of a book, The Little House has delighted readers for more than
sixty years and is an enchanting classic of American children's
literature. Seasons pass and the Little House on the hill watches the
first robins return from the south, the daisies cover the hills, the
first frost turn the leaves yellow, and the children coasting and
skating on the snow. Slowly, the city lights in the distance grow
closer and brighter, the children move away, and the Little House
finds herself surrounded by gasoline stations, apartment houses,
schools, and stores. She finds herself yearning for the "fields of
daisies" and the "apple tree dancing in the moonlight." No one wanted
to live in her and take care of her until, one day, the granddaughter
of the original owner happened upon the Little House and returned her
to her the hill in the country where she can watch the seasons pass
and the stars twinkle above her roof.?
