According to the Overseas Digest web site, as of July, 1999, there were 18,100 Americans in Thailand. The number does not include US Government employees and their dependents. Yes, I'd like to see your figure from 2002. This information only takes into account those who registered with the US embassy, correct? |

anefarious1-ga, Yes, you are correct, these are the number of registered individuals. Here's is the editor's note from the Overseas Digest link: Americans living in the area of these posts are encouraged to register, which simply means they fill out a form to let the embassy or consulate know they are there. This helps in case of emergencies and situations like lost passports. Many do not register, which means that in theory the number of Americans could be higher. These numbers also include children who became American citizens by being born in the United States, but whose parents could be citizens of other countries. |
