I had two house guests last week, both women (sisters). Each slept
alone in different beds/bedrooms. They were here for one night only.
In a couple weeks I'll be having two more guests, a married couple.
They will presumably sleep together in one of those two beds on which
I have not yet changed the sheets. My question is this: does
etiquette/ethics/hosptality require that I change the sheets before
they arrive? Would this depend on whether I think they'd be able to
detect the lingering presence of one of the earlier guests? (The
Pacino film "Scent of a Woman" comes to mind!)

You should certainly replace (or wash) the sheets. The idea of
sleeping on sheets of some unknown person is kinda grody to most
people.

I would certainly change the sheets. When you have overnight guests,
you are essentially functioning as an innkeeper. How would you feel if
you arrived in your room at a hotel and found that the bedlinens had
not been changed since the former guests used them?
