In the early 60's I saw a movie where 3 or 4 oil workers discovered a
German tank burried in the sand in the Saraha. After they dug it out
they found a fortune hidden inside stolen from the Arabs during the
war. They are then chased by the Arabs who want to recover the
treasure. Probably a crummy flic, but I really want to see it again.

I believe you are remembering "The Steel Lady," a 1953 film (also
known by an alternate title, "Treasure of Kalifa.") Here are a couple
of brief descriptions of the plot:

"Surviving a plane crash in the Sahara, four oilmen find and manage to
repair a German Afrika Corps tank which had been buried in the sand
since WWII. Heading toward a French Foreign Legion outpost, they
encounter a nomadic Arab tribe who believe the oilmen have found the
treasure of Calipha, a rival Arab leader. If trying to acquire the
jewels by guile doesn't work, the Arabs are prepared to kill the
oilmen to get the stolen treasure."

Internet Movie Database
http://imdb.com/title/tt0046368/plotsummary

"The Steel Lady in this crazy-quilt actioner is the armored tank
commandeered by star Rod Cameron. Marooned in the Sahara desert,
airplane pilot Mike Monohan (Cameron) and his melting-pot crew
(including a young Tab Hunter) come across a deserted Afrika Korps
tank. As they roll across the burning sands in search of civilization,
the crew is unaware that hidden within the tank is a fortune in
diamonds. But villainous sheik Mustapha El Melek (John Abbott) does
know, and he manages to enlist Monohan's drunken co-pilot Barlow (John
Dehner) in his scheme to claim the gems for himself."

As far as I have been able to determine, this film is not currently
available as a commercial videotape or DVD. Your best chance of
obtaining a copy may be through newsgroups such as these, in which
collectors individuals swap tapes that they've made privately (usually
from television sources):

alt.video.tape-trading
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.video.tape-trading

alt.video.tape-trading.pal
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.video.tape-trading.pal

The first newsgroup linked above is for tapes in the NTSC standard
(used in the United States and Canada), and the second newsgroup is
for tapes in the PAL standard (used in Europe and much of the rest of
the world).

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: "the steel lady" tank

I hope I've correctly identified your movie. If not, please request
clarification; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my
answer.
