In 2002 I received a traffic ticket in AZ for making an illegal turn.
It turns out that I never paid the ticket and they set a court date
for me. Unfortunately, I was living out of the country when they set
the court date (so I didn't know). Because of this I never attended
court and they suspended my license. When I came back to the country
it was suspended so I had to pay a fee to get in unsuspended. The
problem I'm having now is when I try to get car insurance I'm stuck in
the DUI class because my license was suspended (the ticket was only
for an illegal turn). My question is: is there any way I can get this
cleared from my record so my car insurance isn't so high?

Well if you knew about your court date and missed it with out
notifying the court of your circumstances than more than likly you are
out of luck. Now if you have proof that you notified them and have
proof that you were out of the country at the ime of the court date
then possibly you can talk to the judge and explain it to him. But as
it seems you have no real legal recourse to this as when you got your
ticket that was your notification of the court date. Now if you got
your ticket mailed to you becuse you got caught on a cam then if you
have proof you were gone at the time that the mail was recieved you
can use htat information to help you. And I don't know about Arizona
law but when you get the ticket you get you pay by/court date.

What if I didn't know there was a court date? When I moved back to the
country I had no clue my license had been suspended. I didn't find out
until I had a background check done for a job.
