There are a few big names such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Neil Bortz, Rusty Humphries, wwww.clarkhoward.com that most people agree are talk radio. Then there are the morning shows on from 6 AM to 9 AM Eastern time. I don't like any of the latter, and don't consider them talk radio, but likely most people would include some or all of the morning shows. Other programs play music between 15 minutes and 40 minutes per hour, with conciderable small talk in between. Likely most people do not consider these talk radio. You need to tell us where you draw the line. The big names talk mostly Federal politics, but others are variety, or specialed in stocks or investments, local events, National sports, home repairs, charities, a particular religious denomination, current events, the paranormal, weather and many other specialties and groups of specialties, Do you wish to include some or most of these as talk radio? |

This might be of some help to you: "Today, there are a reported 1,308 talk radio shows accessible to the American public on a regular basis, according to the M Street Journal, a trade publication." http://newmedia.cgu.edu/nardi/projects/a2/anitpage.htm |

To clarify: "talk radio" is defined in my question as a radio program that is mostly or all talk where playing music is not a part of the program. So Howard Stern is talk radio while the morning DJ is not (since they play music). I'm also interested, for the most part, in nationally syndicated talk radio shows. I realize there are countless local radio programs but for this question I'd like to get a count of the ones that are syndicated nationally. |
