I would like to buy an Apple Express to hook onto my Netgear Wireless
Router. I plan to extend the range of my current internet connection
but also tie up my (new) Airport Express to my TIVO and stereo system.
Need information on how to configure the Apple Express as a "repeater"
for the Netgear Wireless Router?

Netgear Model#: WGR614 (version 4)
Apple Express: Current version.

Unfortunately, with your model Netgear router, there is no way for the
AirPort Express to talk to it wirelessly; The Netgear router would
need to support WDS (Wireless Distribution System). I would suggest
checking with Netgear and seeing if there is a firmware update
available for your Netgear router which adds WDS capability.

A work-around to extend your range with the AirPort Express would be
to physically wire the AirPort Express to your Netgear router with an
Ethernet cable, and configure the AirPort Express to function "behind"
the Netgear router, that is, configure it just like you would
configure a computer. Then, you name the AirPort Express network (The
SSID) the same name as your Netgear router. Your computer will see
both routers, but since they're both named the same SSID, you will
only see one network. The computer will connect to the one with the
best signal strength.

Hi,

Did you went on the apple.com support website ?
I think there's a topic about configuring a lynksys WRT54G with the
Airport Express.

See there :
http://discussions.info.apple.com/.68a4aa2b/3

they explain a little trick that you should try with your machine...
Maybe it'll work ?

Sincerely,

Bruno

Yeah, the Apple Support page that nokopika-ga gave mentions using WDS,
a feature that the poster's router doesn't have, so that link isn't
much help.
