In the movie Blow Up,  what is the significance of the mimes at the
beginning and the end of the picture-  I don't get it!

Here's my take on it:

The film involves illusions, appearances, and reality, and the bits
with the mimes blur the line between fantasy and the real. When David
Hemmings tosses the imaginary tennis ball back to the mimes, he is
acknowledging their version of "reality."
