I am posting a series of questions - all the same. There are no correct or incomplete anwers. Q1.) Define 'best friend' in your own terms. Q2.) Find me 3 distinct online resources/articles about friendship. Any 3 - so long as they are not already provided as answers to copies of this question. This is preliminary research for a project I am working on. The important factor right now is the diversity of answers, thus the multiple postings of the same question. - SgtCory |

Dear SgtCory, To define the "best friend" is anything but easy. Nevertheless, I'll try. A best friend is the one person who makes the best in me come out and evolve. The one whith whom I share without losing anything. And the one who forthrightly gives opinion and advice on what I am doing, even if it is different from what I hope to hear. The best friend is honest and will not dissemble just to please me. As for the online sources on friendship, I hope that these are useful for your project: The ancient Roman author Cicero's book "On Friendship" http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/cicero-friendship.html (Source: Ancient History Sourcebook) Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay "Friendship" http://www.rwe.org/works/Essays-1st_Series_06_Friendship.htm (Source: The Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson) The essay "Of Friendship", by French philosopher Michel de Montaigne http://www.bartleby.com/32/105.html (Source: Bartleby.com) I hope that this is the kind of answer you expected. All the best, Scriptor |
