My roommate has a cat named Norman. I like to give Norman a hard time
because sometimes he can be a jerk. One time he kept me up all night
by meowing outside my door.

To get back at him, I poured beer on his back. See, when I poured beer
in his water dish, he wouldn't drink it. But when I poured it on his
back, he had to drink it because he had to lick it off.

What is the effect of beer on cats? He didn't drink too much, just a little bit.

Hi there,

According to Chicagoland Tails, who cite the Columbia Animal Hospital,
alcohol is highly toxic to cats. A tablespoon of whiskey can kill a
cat, while just two teaspoons can put the poor thing into a coma.
Beer, while a bit lower in alcohol content, is just as toxic, even
though it would require a slightly larger quantity.

The staff at the Temperance Animal Hospital in Temperance MI (my vets)
add that ingestion of alcohol causes liver trauma in cats - they are
unable to metabolize alcohol.

Please don't give Norman beer. It's really bad for him.

Hope that helps!

ya, but . . is there a difference between when a cat licks something
off its back to clean itsself and when a cat licks something to drink
it??

Only in the quantity he ingests. Licking it from his fur will not
change the substance.

Happy new year, timespacette-ga! How'd it be possible that I'd guess
you were a cat fan?

oh lordy, crythias! where ya been?

shall we kick off the New Year with a good debate?

IMHO that joke about cats and mustard was in extremely poor taste . .
. well, there's a start!

but on your other point about cats upsetting the ecological balance, I
agree absolutely . . . .

I remember asking Bill Mollison, the guy who coined the word 'Permaculture'
<http://www.tagari.com/PermInst/BillMollison/CVBillMollison.htm>
I asked him how cats fit in with his vision of sustainable agriculture . . .

His answer: "They make a very good mulch . . ."

:-( . . . oh dear!
