Dear magster-ga; I am posting this as a COMMENT for the time being. The spire on the roof in the painting appears to be a lightning rod similar to the one seen in this photograph: DAY CREEK http://www.daycreek.com/dc/images/042801b.jpg These globes, or glass balls were largely decorative though some people were duped into buying them from unscrupulous salesmen who may have claimed they provided added protection. It says in part: ?The amber glass ball on a lightning rod in Northern Point looks to him "as if it were spinning in mid-air." And after four days of straddling the roof top and?
