I am going on a city break to zurich for 3 days next month (18-21 feb)
... is it worth taking a train for a quick ski on one of the days
(possibly Sunday 20th)?

If so - about how much will it cost, what resorts are easiest to
visit, and do you just get the train to a ski resort from the main
station in Zurich?

I have not been skiing before but my wife has, and is keen to give it another try.

Regards
Tom

Though not a skier, I've been to Switzerland on a 2 week vacation and
my god, it's my dream country for a vacation.

As regards the mode of travel and the places you can visit for sking,
just go to any train station and ask them for the details. The guys
there are very very helpful. They'll help you in identifying the spots
and give you a complete iternary (which comprises of train, bus,
cable-car timings).

You may also check out the timings on the swiss rail website.

The people of Switzerland are very very helpful in general and most of
them understand English. No wonder tourism is flourishing there.

Zurich is about as far from the ski areas as you can get and still be
in Switzerland. Visit a bunny slope somewhere near home. You've got 3
days, try to see something of Zurich. May I suggest a side trip to
Stein am Rhein.

I live in Zurich and many locals including myself go to the
Flumserberg. It has the best combination proximity, facilities and
price. I'm a relative beginner and I feel comfortable there, and so do
my advanced freinds who take the "black" runs.

Zurich to the cable base at Unterterzen is just over one hour by train
with only one change.

The best value deal is to take a "Snow and Rail" ticket, which
includes transport and day ski pass at a very good discount. This is
available at the main train station (Zurich Hauptbahnhof).

My own personal tip is to avoid going on the Sunday, it's naturally
the busiest day. A weekday will be much quieter and pleasant.

Have fun... Cheers Greg
