Where are the best places to rent a bed for 3 - 6 months? I'm in San
Francisco, and I want a *soft*, king sized bed. What kind of prices
would I be looking at?

How about getting an inflatable bed instead of renting one?  King
sized inflatables are a little harder to find than twin/full/queen
sizes, but they do exist.  You can look at Aero Bed brand models here:
