I'm researching the name of an area in Texas that has been corrupted
from Spanish. I've found through AltaVista Babelfish that "tas" is
another word for "anvil" (generally translated as "Yunque" in
Spanish), but I don't have any way to confirm this translation is
correct.

I'd like to know if "tas" really does mean "anvil", and if it does, is
there any peculiarity of this meaning and a bit on it's history.

The Spanish word "tas" refers to a small anvil used by silversmiths
and other metalworkers. The word is not in common use, except in
crossword puzzles.

Here are some online references:

con las que se hacen pescaditos de oro."

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search (Spanish pages only): "tas" + "yunque"

I am assuming that you are able to read Spanish; if this is not the
case, please let me know, and I will translate the quotes above into
English for you. If anything is unclear or incomplete, please request
clarification; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my
answer.
