Can you point me to List of stocks that can be optioned? I heard that there are many stocks on which options cannot be be bought or sold. I heard that there are just about 3,000 stocks (or companies) on which you can buy or sell options, puts and calls. ODon't have a clue whether this is an accurate number either) I have tried every way I can think of to query Google to help me find the U.S list of the stocks (or related . . . whatever) on which options can be purchased but have been totally unsuccessful. Can you point me to a list that includes all of them or at least a great number of them and then, tell me how you found the list? |

Not all stock exchange deal with futures and options. Trick is to look for those which do, such as: Chicago Board Options Exchange ( CBOE). They provide resources and materials http://www.cboe.com/LearnCenter/Seminars.aspx including list of options they list http://www.cboe.com/TradTool/Symbols/SymbolDirectory.aspx Here is a list of other exchanges: http://www.ino.com/resources/exchanges/ However, I have found the following method easiest for common stocks, method which I will illustrate ot on example of AMD. Are there options available for AMD? We go to some good source of quotes, e.g.: http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/ Enter symbol into the box at the top http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=AMD&sid=0&o_symb=AMD&x=0&y=0 and get AMD Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE) 1/13/2005 hide quote detailed quote options chain sponsored link (bar) In this case we see there are options available: as we see words options chain We click on it and can view the quotes on options. Do no forget that trading options is risky WHEN USED TO SPECULATE, rather then TO HEDGE (it allows both) and do ask for the CBOE booklet before you start. Booklet explains risks and also rules by which option symbols are formed. Your broker will provide such booklet when you ask for option trading priviledges (Those are available to experienced investors only). Good luck. Hedgie |
