Hello.
If you have a full class G licence, you can exchange it for the
British equivalent for automatic transmission vehicles. If you have a
G2, you can exhange for it a probationary UK licence.
"An Ontario driver, upon becoming a resident of Great Britain, can already
exchange a full class G licence for the British equivalent for automatic
transmission vehicles. Ontarians who wish to drive standard transmission
vehicles must take the United Kingdom (UK) road test or provide proof of
having passed a test in a manual transmission vehicle. Novice drivers can
exchange their Ontario G2 licence for a UK licence subject to probationary
laws."

What does "probationary" mean?
It means that if you get 6 "penalty points" within two years after
getting the licence, they'll take away your licence and you'll have to
start again as a learner. Getting caught speeding twice is a way of
earning 6 points.
See:
John Foote Intensive Driving - PROBATIONARY LICENCE
http://www.johnfoote.co.uk/Lessons/probationarylicence.htm
Also see:
"If you reach 6 or more penalty points within two years of passing
that test (The probationary period)DVLA will automatically revoke your
licence on being notified by a court or fixed penalty office . You
will then have to obtain a provisional licence and drive as a learner
again, taking the theory and practical tests again in order to regain
your full licence. .
Penalty points counting towards the total of 6 include any you
incurred before passing the test, as long as the offence took place
not more than 3 years before the latest penalty point offence."
