are alive today?

Hi Mojojojo -

By my count there are 54 Chemistry laureates still alive (as of today), and 64
Medicine/Physiology laureates still alive. They are listed below in
order of awarded year. I got this information by doing a search by
subject of http://nobelprize.org/search/laureate.html (Nobel Prize
official website), and copying only the ones without a death date.
Interestingly enough, there have been 104 awardees in each category -
I don't know what that says about physicians vs. chemists in terms of
length of life or age at time of award! Please let me know if you
have further questions -

mojojojo1234,

A crude method would be to go to this website
http://nobelprize.org/chemistry/laureates/index.html

it lists all the Nobel Laureates in chemistry till date. You could
click on each of the laureates and find out if they are alive or not.
It starts from 1901 trhu 2004. So you would have quite some clicking
to do.

The same can be repeated for "medicine or Physiology".

Although the website might not be updated with any recent passing away
of the laureates, it would give you a fair idea and well as the names
of the ones who are alive.

Easy Question - The Nobel Foundation is the best source for this
information, they keep track of all laureates. The number of living
Nobel laureates in Chemistry is 52. Similary for Physiologiy and
Medicine the number is 64. A breakdown by decade shows the following:

                         Chemistry Medicine and Physiology
2004 - 2000 : 13 13
1999 - 1990 : 16 18
1989 - 1980 : 15 13
1979 - 1970 : 3 12
1969 - 1960 : 1 5
1959 - 1950 : 1 3

These counts are valid as of 1/2005.
