I'm looking for informtion about the sculpture artist Higueruela (Spanish artist) Don Quixote by Higueruela (could be ?Higueruela?)...1964 Notes: James Pendleton attended the Spanish addition section of Spanish artist represented in the 1964 World Fair. He was so impressed with this artist?s work that he paid the$1,000 fee asked by this artist and on condition that the object would be on display during the entire World Fair session. It took roughly a year for the forged iron sculpture before the Spanish agents would let the sculpture leave the country. The artist was know by James Mason, who purchased all this artist?s works. He did not get this Don Quixote by Higueruela because the artist wanted his sculpture in this art exhibit. One must examine the object to see the El Greco madness featured in this Don Quixote facial features. Truly only a great artist could fashion such facial features while working on hot iron. I had written to James Mason?s agent in NYC shortly after his death, but that office had already closed. Information relayed onto me was that Mason collected Higueruela?s art and were on display in his own backyard art collection. I had hopped that Portland or Alexander would receive my inquiry about other works of Higueruela. No reply was ever received. I had a friend Bryan Grovett seek out Mason?s home in London, but it was in private hands and had only a plaque on the building. No other information of what happened was available. Anyone out there in ?Google-land? has any information about Mason?s collection would also be most appreciated. |

Probably you're talking about Joaquin Garcia Donaire. If this is it, His Quixote is in a square in his home city. Below, a few links on the subject: http://www.garciadonaire.com/informacion_personal.asp http://contartetoledo.com/antologia/donaire.htm http://contartetoledo.com/antologia/images/12_1.htm http://clubdelgrabado.com/index.mv?portada_fam1.txt+4 Luntes |

I received the website for the Spanish artist Josquin Garcia Donaire of whom I am much impressed, but this is the the forged iron sculpture artist Higueruela... his version of the Don Quixote reveals this artist interst in the painter El Greco...the madness and defiance is there and the inspiration of "The Impossible Dream." At least that's my feeling. Perhaps searching out the Mason home in London may have info...I'd write but do not know the address of the residence now in private hands. |

Hi, The link below is the only one I have found about Higueruela. It seems he´s not very famous on the internet...: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/auctions/ebay/242562.html I have e-mailed James Mason Appreciation Society, and if I get a feedback from them, I'll tell you. luntes |
