My Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop does not charge the battery and it is too
expensive to fix.
Can I cheaply connect my AC adapter directly to the battery to charge it?

Hello martin1899-ga,

You can buy an external battery charger such the one on this page
(scroll down to the second item)?

Is this the type of thing you are looking for?

Thanks Googlenut. No I don't want to spend $159.95 which is an
excessive price for a battery charger. I'm looking for a cheap
solution. Is there an easy way I can get my AC adapter to charge my
battery? Would a cable with the appropriate plugs between them work?

Cynthia,

I guess the battery is good because I bought a new one that also does
not charge. So I have two batteries and an old laptold that is not
worth investing much more. I would like to use the laptop on my
wireless broadband connection for remote surfing but I don't want to
spend much more.

Martin,

You need to determine if the battery is "bad." If the battery is bad,
charging simply won't work. Take it to a laptop shop, they'll plug in
a battery they KNOW works, then you'll know if you need a new battery
or if it's the charging board inside the computer. This information
is at the link I provided...

We can find you a cheap(er) battery that will work with a Dell.
