I am having all sorts of spam mail thru my comcast email account, plus tons of pop-ups, and obviously tons of spyware. I run at least two popup and spyware programs, but everytime my son gets on my computer it takes me approx 2 hrs - 2 days to get it cleaned up again to where i even feel save accessing my banking information, or even can access certain information. The two programs for spyware and adaware I run the most are Lavasoft Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy. They work very well, but I still haven't been able to clean all the spyware from my computer. Besides no letting my son ever use my computer again, what would your suggestions be to keep this from happening? |

I switched to the Mozilla Firefox browser. worked great. Plus, tabbed browsing is WAAAAY Cool! Also, in Spybot, did you "Innoculate?" ~~Cynthia |

Lavasoft is the best program for removing spyware. YOu just have to make sure and keep it updated. Now for all of the pop ups. More than likley if you are getting this many. Someone id either d/l crap, opening e-mail attachments that our spyware or going to sites that install this on your computer. It shouldn't take ad-aware but 5-10 minutes to clean off all of the spyware. And it does reconize cookies as spyware. So you may want to see what it is exactly. If you can post anything it says you have but cookies I could help you remove it. Some also can be deleted from your add/remove programs. You just have to look for the offending software in there. You could also try a reg cleaner on your system to help keep it clean. When it comes down to it. No one is really completly safe against this kind od software. But you can take preventive measures on your system to enshure you have as little trouble as possible. |

I do use Lavasoft all the time, but it doesn't catch everything. I have no doubt that my son is going to websites that install this crap, and I have even given him(as a user) no priviledges to install programs. But evidently the sites he visits will install apps without Admin priviledges. I could post plenty of stuff that I have found from using other Spyware removal programs, and I can remove them myself by searching thru the registry, my computer, etc. but that is either very time consuming or very expensive because most of the spyware apps that you can download and run, will show you the results, but will not clean them off your computer unless you pay for them. So I end up looking at all the results and hunting them down on my PC and getting rid of them. As I said, I use Lavasoft Adaware and also Spybot but even these two apps don't catch everything. So this is what I have to go thru all the time. I am looking for an answer that will give me a specific application that does it all; spyware blocking, spam filtering, etc. But i'm not sure there is anything like that out there. |

You could create his own user account and set his security high on the fire wall and his internet explorer security options. |

Microsoft anti-spyware (still beta) is showing good promise from a user perspective: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&DisplayLang=en ("validation" of MS-Windows is optional) -- I am not ao official GA researcher. |

Thanks for all of your suggestions. It will take me a while to test these applications, but I appreciate your input very much. However, I am looking for something that has already been tried and tested. |
