My 12 month old will not sit still in a group music class. That is,
he wills quirm out of my lap, won't lie down for massage time, crawls
away to look out the window and gets tired toward the end of the 50
minute session. Is this all perfectly normal or should I be
concerned? None of the other toddlers behave in this antisocial way.

I wouldn't look at it as "antisocial". He's 12 mths. Its really too
early to define him as "antisocial". First is this the first group
class he has been in? Some children need time to adjust to newer
setting. I have three kids.. 7,5,3 none of them ever acted the same
for any given situation. My oldest could be sat anywhere and never
move. My middle moved all them time and my youngest- you don't know
what he'll do till he does it. I found that if I wanted my middle to
"learn" a routine we would have outside of the home I needed to
practice it with him. Have you tried doing simular activies in your
home one on one with him in shorter time frames and them working up to
a 50 minute session? Or if the music setting doesnt work try finding
another activity. As my middle couldnt stay still I found it best to
envolve him in more "physical" activites- playdates at the park,
special outtings with other kids, something that would give him more
physical activity and teach him to socialize instead of expecting him
to sit for long periods of time. Each child will be different and
sometimes you need to find something that works well for them instead
of tryin to find a way to force them into the activity that you
choose.

Personally I wouldnt be alarmed. And I wouldnt use the "antisocial"
word for a small child.
