How to enable Remote Procedure Call(RPC) Service in the Registry OR
other means, on Windows NT, after it's been disabled in Hardware
profile through Service Manager. System hangs up with following
error(s) in Event Viewer:
"Event ID 7001
The COM+ Event System service depends on the Remote Procedure Call
(RPC) Service which failed to start because of the following error:
The specified service is disabled and cannot be started."

Hi zerge!!
I am not sure if this will solve your trouble, but if this work let me
know and I will repost it as an answer.
Make sure that the remote procedure call (RPC) services are started on
the server computer. You can do this by opening Control Panel, double-
clicking Services, and checking to make sure the Remote Procedure Call
(RPC) Service and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator services are
running and set to start automatically.
Right click on RPC and check the properties, verify if they are
enabled for automatic start.
Also you can try this:
Click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and
then click OK:
net start rpcss

I hope this helps you.

Hello,

The deal is that I can't get to the Control Panel/Service manager
because system hangs up on boot ( bunch of services fail, EXPLORER.EXE
is one of them, to load because of the error i listed in the question
).

I can only get to EventViewer, Task Manager and run command prompt.

To enable RPC again I have to get to Service Manager somehow from
running a New Task from Task Manager, but I don't know the name of the
service, or it could not be run from Task Manager.

Another way I guess is to Run Regedit.exe and edit Registry for RPC
service.
But again I don't know the keys and proper values to Enable the
service again.

Thanks

In Windows 2000/XP you can type in "services.msc" (no quotes) to open
the services panel, but I'm not sure if it's the same in NT.

Nope, can't start 'services.msc'. Looks like the only way to fix it is
to edit the registry ( restore keys and values to their original
configuration ). ERD disk is ages old.
Thanks everyone

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this will help you, but the reg key in Win2k to set
the start mode of RPC is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs. Edit the
"Start" Value to "2" for automatic. I assume this is the same on NT
4.0, but I don't have any machines to check this on.

I have a similar problem. I disabled RPC because I had a virus and it
was using like 98% of my processor cycles. Will this same run command
fix it permanently?
