Hi! Thanks for an interesting question. Here are some explanations why planets are round (or spherical in shape) and it mainly centers on the issue of gravity. ??larger bodies like the nine planets and most of their moons do look like spheres. That's because of the nature of gravity. You can think of gravity as a force that points inward toward the center of the planet so that every part of the surface is pulled evenly toward the center, resulting in a spherical shape.? ?Why are planets round?? http://www.pa.msu.edu/~sciencet/ask_st/031198.html ?Planets are round because their gravitational field acts as though it originates from the center of the body and pulls everything toward it. With its large body and internal heating from radioactive elements, a planet behaves like a fluid, and over long periods of time succumbs to the gravitational pull from its center of gravity.? ?Scientific American Website, Ask the Expert:? http://ideaplace.org/Why/RoundPlanet.html Search terms used: why are planets round I hope these links would help you in your research.
