Question ID: 45709
I have a problem with burning my cds. I use a PCG-SR1C/BP sony laptop
and external Sony CD-RW CRX120E burner(pretty old) to burn my cds. I
use another external cd-rom player that came along with the computer
to save tracks on the desktop. lately, i can`t burn a cd either in
4×or 2×speed. The nero, comes up with a error message saying,
SCSI/ATAPI command time out error. and it stops at 3% in the four
trials I try to burn. Is there a solution, to this. Another thing
that has been bothering me is that somehow the computer detects either
the cd burner or the cd-rom player as Toshiba cd-rom XM-7002BC. does
this make sense to anybody? Please I need help!!

Hello:
How many free space do you have on your system hard disk? Have you
defragmented your hard disk lately? Do you have running any other time
consuming processes?

Regards.

Yes. my laptop did crash several months ago. I had to reinstall
everything from the recovery disk. I have a internal C drive, and a D
drive. the C drive is 5.58GB and have 1.93 GB of free space left.
and the other drive D drive has 3.75 GB with 3.62GB left. Can the
crashing be the cause of this. and if I were to get a another cd
burner, would it help at all?

might wanna try closing all your programs down that you would be
running in the background of your CD burning program. try this by
doing ctrl+alt+delete. Unless you run norton antivirus, close
everything out except explorer, and the CD burning program. and if you
are running norton antivirus, leave NProtect running. And if it still
doesnt work, try closing norton out along with all the other programs.

I do close all the programs when I try to burn my cds. I don`t really
know what you mean by ctrl+alt+delete. wouldn`t that restart the
computer even when you are using another program? I also don`t really
get the antivirus program. I have updated the Nero`s antivirus
program by connecting to the internet, but it did not help at all.
thanks though

if you press control alt and delete at the same time, it brings up a
dialog where you can close all your programs from clicking them on
that screen and going to "end task". only if u press it twice it will
restart your computer. and now im guessing you dont have norton
antivirus so i would still recommend the pressing control alt and
delete at the same time method. and i have had the problem you are
having many times before. whenever that happens, its usually because
there is something loose or out of place in my burner. (my computer
gets banged around alot). so that could be it or maybe it needs
cleaning? just suggestions

This sounds like a problem I have with my machine if I have DMA
enabled on my CDRW and DVD-Rom drive. There seemed to be some
conflict between the CDRW/DVD drives and the harddisks when DMA was
enabled for my CDRW/DVD drives!

The drive seems to transfer data too slowly Is the drive on the same
controller cable as the primary hard drive? If so, performance will be
slowed because only one device can communicate at a time. Save it to
hard drive then copy to your CD Burner.

Other problems, such as failure to write unreadable disks and slow
operation are generally related to software issues. Look for and up
date for your software.
Hope this helps
