Ok, hopefully there is an eighties music nut on here who may have
actually heard this song. I am looking for a song from the eighties,
probably between '84 and '89 but that's not certian. It is sung by a
female artist, possibly Kim Wilde but I have searched her lyrics and
cannot find any that match this song (this doesn't mean it's not her,
just that I didn't find that in my searches). There was a video. In
the video the singer is a petite blond singing the song, there are
white and light grey sheets everywhere. There may be more to the video
but that's the only part I remember. So here's the facts:

Eighties song
Petite blond singer (Kim wilde??)
Video with white sheets
A few fragments of lyrics (below)
No actual title known
No actual artist known

Lyrics (fragmented and may not be exact, though I think they are)

I'm on my way up
I've got it all together
Nothing's gonna stop me now
On my way up
???
No-ones gonna hold me down

There's also a part in there about people staying in the shadows, some
of them holding you back or stopping you, maybe a part about some
people helping or appearing to offer help they when they aren't really
offering to help.

Anyway, that's what I have. I didn't really do drugs but reading this
I think I may be wrong on that. Maybe I did so many I forget the
events that made me forget.

Hello.

I believe that the song was "On The Way Up" by Elisa Fiorillo.

From the 80sxchange message board:

" Who sings "On the way up" ?? ...
...
Because I'm on the way up
I've got it all together,
Nothing's gonna hold me back,
I'm on the way up, I'm only gettin better,
Now tell me what you think about that"
...
...
Try "On the Way Up" by Elisa Fiorillo"

Elisa Fiorillo is indeed a petite blond singer. See photos on her web site:
http://www.elisafiorillo.com/photos.html

"On the Way Up" was co-written by Ms Fiorillo, Prince and Levi Seacer
Jr. It was a Top 40 hit. See a previous version of Ms Fiorillo's
web site archived by the Internet Wayback Machine:

There's a 30 second RealPlayer audio clip on the same archived site
(The clip works, but it may load slowly):

The song is Track #2 on Fiorillo's "I Am" album, available used for
$0.73 on Amazon.com:

The single is available from dealers on MusicStack:

search strategy:
"way up" "got it all together" song
"elisa fiorillo" "on the way up"

I hope this is the song that you had in mind. If not, please let me
know via the "request clarification" feature. Thanks.

Wow. I've looked for this for years and you found it in an hour. I am
so humbled. Not only did the researcher come through with the name and
artist he provided links to the artists website as well as links to
buy the song and CD.
