I am trying to locate a children's picture book. Unfortunately, I do not know the name of the book. I read this book when I was probably 6-7 years of age which was about 12 years ago. The book's illustrations were in color. The plot involves a young boy who sits in his mother's lap--possibly in a rocking chair--and his transitions as he ages. Somehow, he always finds comfort in sitting on his mother's lap. I believe the boy ages to the point were he gets married and leaves the house, which makes the mother lonely. The end of the story involves the mother being so old that the boy (who is now a man) lets her sit on his lap, completing the circle of care the mother showed him. |

Hello. I believe that your book was "I'll Love You Forever" (1986) by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw. See the illustration at the elderly mother in the son's lap at: http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/16862/files/munsch_old.jpg From this page: 'Love You Forever': A Portrait of Parental Extremes? http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/childrensliterature/108120 Buy the book at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0920668372/ ------- search strategy: google groups: children's book "in her lap" I hope this is your book. If not, please let me know via the "request clarification" feature. Thanks. | |
