I have win2k sp4 and I have a spyware bug or something...
So, I was at some sights with some fun little video clips and
something infected my machine. It hijacked my home page in IE and
there is a link on the homepage that has been forced on me that links
to "http://snugweb.com/uninstall/".

Symptoms are that links to spyware products keep popping up on my
machine as well as a warning message that claims to be from Microsoft.
Every now and then a bubble pops up that looks like my operating
system is notifying me I'm infected and has links that suggest I buy
spyware. Occasionally some gambling site or porn site randomly pops
up too. I have run "Spybot search and destroy" at start up but that
didn't clean her up. I also used my credit card to pay for this
question... should I cancel that card cuz somebody is monitoring
everything on my machine?

Any body got any ideas?

It is not unusual for one piece of spyware to not be detected by all
removal software. Here are some commonly used tools:

Hijack This

Ad Aware

Greetings Digsby,

I had a similar annoyance of unwanted pop-ups and AdAware solved the problem.

Best regards,

Hi Digsby,

It could be that the spyware programm "180 search assistent" installed
itself on your computer.
You should be able to locate that one in your "software option".
I had it de-installed pretty easily and the "warning from Microsoft",
which was in fact an adverb in my case, never showed up again.
After that I downloaded a free trial version of Spysweeper (
www.download.com) and had my computer "swept". It removed
approximately 125 items and is much faster since then.

I have found that you have to run several anti spyware programs to get
rid of the problem. Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy are very good
free ones. I run both. I also run one of the paid programs like
Xoftspy and that combination keeps my computer clean.

Hai everybody

it copied "protect32.dll" file in system folder
(c:\windows\system) rename that one and use spybot to clean
DSO-exploit spywares. Then you will free from this problem
