Lowest Windchill

Minnesota
?What was the coldest windchill ever seen in Minnesota? The answer can
be a little tricky because on November 2001 the formula on how to
calculate the windchill was changed. Perhaps the coldest windchill the
Twin Cities has ever seen was -67 with the new formula (-87 with the
old formula) back on January 22nd 1936. The temperature was -34 with a
wind speed of 20mph. Without a lengthy state-wide wind record, it is
difficult to say when was the coldest statewide windchill. There are
some candidate dates though besides January 22, 1936. On January 9th
and 10th, 1982 temperatures of -30 and winds of around 40mph were
reported in Northern Minnesota. This would translate to -71 by the new
formula (-100F by the old formula.)?

United States -

World -

Canada
?The coldest wind chill recorded in Canada was at Pelly Bay, Nunavut,
on January 13, 1975, when 56 km/h winds (a wind chill factor of 3,357
watts/mē) made the temperature of ?51 C feel more like ?92 C.?

Highest humidity

?Forks, Washington takes the crown for most humid city, averaging 83
percent. Olympia is right behind with an average 78 percent. Then,
more logical answers like Port Arthur, Texas (77.5%) and Lake Charles,
Louisiana (77%) dot the list.

Why don't we notice it as much? Our dew points (the temperature at
which air saturates) are much lower here. Humidity doesn't start to
feel uncomfortable until dew points reach over 60 degrees. Around
here, they're typically in the 35-50 degree range. Along the Gulf
Coast, they're typically between 60 and 70 degrees.?
http://www.komotv.com/asksteve/story.asp?ID=24842

The dew point temperature

?The dew point temperature is the temperature to which the air must be
cooled at constant pressure for it to become saturated. The higher the
dew point is, the more uncomfortable people feel. This is because
people cool themselves by sweating and if the dew point is at a high
temperature, then it becomes more difficult for sweat to evaporate off
the skin.?

Minnesota
80 degree dew points are rare in the Twin Cities historical record.
Since 1945, there have been only twenty hours of 80 degree dew points
recorded. Ten of those twenty hours came in a ten hour period on July
12 and 13, 1995. The highest dew point temperature ever recorded in
the Twin Cities was 81 degrees at 11:00 am on July 30, 1999. The
highest single hour dew point was in 2003 was 77 degrees and 75
degrees in 2004.
http://climate.umn.edu/doc/twin_cities/mspdewpoint.htm

United States
?According to the Mount Washington Observatory's Weather Notebook,
it's not possible to have 95 degrees and a 95 percent humidity in the
Western Hemisphere. The warmest temperature possible with a 95%
humidity (which is near saturation) is about 85 degrees. However, a
93-degree dewpoint temperature was recorded once on the Persian Gulf,
so it would be possible to have a 95-degree, 95% humidity at that
location. The highest dewpoint temperature I've ever seen in the
United States is in the lower 80's. Anything above 68 to 70 degrees is
quite humid.?

Highest heat adjustment

Minnesota
?What about the highest heat index ever reached in the Twin Cities or
Minnesota? The heat index is a "feels like" measure which factors
together temperature and dew point. The highest heat index value ever
recorded in the Twin Cities is believed to be 119 degrees, occurring
on July 11, 1966 (our thanks to climate historian Charles Fisk). For
Minnesota, an air temperature of 97 degrees teamed with an 84 degree
dew point to create a heat index value of 125 degrees at the Red Wing
airport at 3:00 pm on July 30, 1999.?
http://climate.umn.edu/doc/historical/extremes.htm

United States
?On Monday, the nation's highest heat index -- a measure of heat and
humidity -- was the miserable 125 recorded in Biloxi, Mississippi. In
Dallas, two deaths have been attributed to the recent hot weather.
Forecasters don't expect a break in the Southern heat until at least
later in the week.?
