It would help to know the name of your email provider (i.e. Earthlink,
AOL, MSN, etc.), your email software (i.e. Outlook, Netscape Mail,
Eudora, etc.), and any anti-spam programs that you're using.

I too have welcomed this -- down from 30+ a day to half a dozen. Most
spam is or was generated by only a handful of (insert the word you can
think of). There have recently been some major prosecutions so perhaps
this is beginning to have impact. ISP?s are also finally taking a more
responsible approach because their systems were overloading. When I
first complained years ago with a warning to ?act now?, all I got was
?ain?t our problem guv?.

Perhaps too, the returns have diminished to the point of no profit but
I fully expect an upsurge from even more remote corners of the world
before it is finally exterminated -- preferably by slow death to the
purps.

BTW 'vaac' how are your floppy drives doing. Sorted?

Before your internet service provider's mail server sends the mail to
your PC, it is checked via a large list of sites that are known to
send spam. This list comes from organizations like:

http://www.spamhaus.org/

A good update to this list probably caused the reduction in spam
messages that you were seeing. In addition, law enforcement often
times gets involved in spam cases, and if a major player in the spam
ring was taken down you might also feel (or not :)) the impact.
