Hi,

ERDs are very useful, take it from someone who used to think they
weren't. Reading any professional book like those at
www.books24x7.com on Database Design will help you understand the
relationship between ERDs and complete database tables.

I conducted a search on ERD and database table design and found the
following useful sites on yahoo and google.

Database Design Issues discusses this topic well.
http://www.frick-cpa.com/ss7/Theory_ERD.asp

This powerpoint clearly shows how ERDs can visually display a database
for all member of a team with little to no technology background.

This site gives a very comprehensive overview of reading ERDs.
http://www.can-da.com/canda/articles/articles/an1/readingerds.html

Finally this site give a list of good hints for drawing ERDs.

I hope this helps.
