Hi again 11boomer,
I found your information in a 2003 Annual Report put out by Allergan.
Allergan spent 200 Million in three years: 2000, 2001, and 2003; in
R&D projects relating specifically to further development (and
regulatory approval for new uses) of Botox. Migraine treatment is not
broken out specifically, and the 2004 numbers are not out yet, however
by extrapolation, this number would now be 266 Million.
Bottom of Page 12:
http://www.shareholder.com/AGN/downloads/2003AnnualReport.pdf
..."With 15 years of history in the United States, approval in 73
countries around the world and over 1 million patients treated with
BOTOX in 2002 alone,BOTOX has a virtually unparalleled record in the
pharmaceutical industry of use for many serious medical conditions.
Allegan continues to invest heavily in BOTOX R&D; over $200 million in
the past three years, to investigate and secure regulatory approval
for new indications for BOTOX as well as to further improve the
product..."
Additionally, Allergan spent 305 Million in 2003 for R&D. By dividing
the 200 Million figure above by three (for 2003 only), new
applications for the Botox product used 21.786% of those Research
dollars. Indeed, new uses and further development of Botox is high on
their agenda. Of course my numbers are very rough, but you get the
idea.
The PDF document above is 52 pages, I skimmed it for relevant facts,
but you may want to read it all.

By clicking on R&D, you are taken to a a page with many links to
follow that describe the entire development of new drugs, it's
fascinating.
