I bought a new Sony F-V220 microphone for my Windows XP, and I started
recording my voice with Super MP3 Recorder Professional. I don't think
these details are relevant, but just in case. Because my actual
question -- is there any way to cancel the noise which doesn't belong
to my voice via some
software or setting? I don't want to take this to a super-professional
level, I just want to get rid of the really lo-quality the noise is
creating.

Hi j_philipp!

The noise gates by Drawmer are very expensive ($1,000+), but they do
have a good laymans explanation here:

GATE BASICS
http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/mar98/articles/drawmer.html
..."As everyone who has a studio will have discovered, a recording is
often accompanied by a degree of unwanted noise. The main purpose of a
noise gate is to reduce this noise, by closing down the signal path
when the signal falls below a 'threshold' set by the user. Usually
you'd set the threshold just above the level of the unwanted noise.
When the gate is open, the wanted signal and the noise pass through,
with the noise (hopefully) being masked by the signal. When the wanted
signal pauses, the gate closes, shutting off the background noise
(which you'd otherwise be able to hear quite clearly, with no noise to
mask it) at the same time..."

Here's one for $499.00:

SoundSoap Pro

If this type of solution will work for you, please advise and I will
look for something more affordable. What is your price range?

OK, the software solution should be between free and ~$40...
Thanks Cynthia.

Okay, I love a challenge. I have a question locked now, and have to
work my "day job" from noon to 8pm Friday. If no one else Answers
before then, I'll give it a go. In case I don't get to it then, I
have to bartend again from 7pm to close Saturday, and then have
nothing to do till Thursday...

Well, someone hit my unoccupied truck and knocked it 20 feet...I have
to get estimates for the D.A. *sigh*

In the meantime I've been speaking to someone who suggested "Audacity"
to me. I downloaded this program and will give it a try this weekend.
I will post an update here. Possibly, my problem is also related to a
magnetic field somewhere around my microphone. I don't quite know yet.

Thanks,
Philipp
