Question ID: 460155
I used the <blink></blink> tags to make some text blink on a web page.

Problem is - when I view the page using IE (version 6.x) it doesn't
blink (though it does blink when I use mozilla.

Is there a different tag that i need to make it blink under IE?

Hi skip9801,

If you feel this answers your question please post a clarification and
I'll post in the answer box. This is the bottom line!

How do I make text blink?
http://www.sightspecific.com/~mosh/WWW_FAQ/blink.html

Short Answer
In order to make text blink, simply enclose the text within the
<BLINK>...</BLINK> tags. However, keep in mind that many people find
blinking text to be annoying and you have no guarentee that the text
will blink in every browser.

[...]

Keep in mind, when using this tag, that it is a Netscapism and has not
been recognized in any of the HTML standards nor by most, if not all,
other browser vendors. Therefore, not only do other browser vendors
not have to implement the <BLINK> tag, they have not implemented it.

OK, fine. So at least Netscape users will see the blinking text,
right? Wrong. Although not an obvious ability, Netscape users can
disable blinking text. For specific information on how to turn
blinking text off in your version of Netscape see
http://www.sightspecific.com/~mosh/WWW_FAQ/noblink.html.

In closing, I wanted to point out that Netscape, it would seem, also
considers the <BLINK> tag to be the web's version of damnation. To see
what I mean (Netscape users only, I'm afraid) read the verse found in
The Book of Mozilla, 12:10.

Best regards,
tlspiegel

Although I hate <BLINK>, you do have options ...

(1) Google search of "blink internet explorer" yields
  http://www.siteexperts.com/tips/html/ts12/page1.asp
which provides just a few lines of JavaScript to add to the top of your page
to make BLINK work in IE

(2) I wrote some much more complicated JavaScript to do blinking
  http://home.earthlink.net/~odmark/9001-Answer-Blink.html
which lets you blink normal-to-dim and color-to-color

Thanks. I'll probably forgo trying to make it blink from within IE.

Hmm... (1) That "siteexperts" code is pretty simple.

And (2) I used that code to create a very simple better blink (red-to-gray)
based on DIVs -- just give the DIV an ID that starts with the word "blink"
