Micro-Gravity Experiments
LABEN has participated to several experiments in micro-gravity
environment, in the field of Fluid-Material- and Life Science. LABEN
is involved in micro-gravity research both through scientific
programs, managed by European Space Agency and Italian Space Agency,
and shareholding in INTOSPACE GmbH for commercial projects and
missions. LABEN plays an active role in all main European
micro-gravity laboratories, such as SPACELAB, EURECA, COLUMBUS and
derivatives.
In Fluid Dynamics field LABEN developed electronic systems and
man-machine interface for Bubble-Drop and Particle Unit (BDPU),
featuring digital image acquisition and download to Earth as well as
telecommand and telemetry management. Material Science saw LABEN
operating both at sub-system or equipment level (as happened for
Advanced Protein Crystallization Facility - APCF which successfully
flew four times), and as full responsible of complex payloads such as
Solution Growth Facility successfully operated on EURECA space
platform. Broad experience acquired by LABEN throughout the years
allowed involvement in Life Science field, including botanical and
medical research. Participation of scientists and experts during all
specification, design and testing phases guarantee that any
requirement can be fulfilled.
