I'm having a lot of trouble with fonts on a particular computer. Specifically, punctuation marks (apostrophes, bullets, etc.) do not always print. To patch the problem, I have tried removing and reinstalling the font from the CD. I have also tried using a utility to clear the font cache. These methods seem to work for a while, but I have to do it almost every single day. I need to know the most efficient way to solve this problem. If it means reinstalling the OS, that's fine, but I don't want to spend hours on that and then still have a problem. On the other hand, if there's a simple, 5-minutes solution, I would much prefer that over reinstalling the OS! The computer user is getting frustrated with my multiple failings at fixing it. The computer is a new G5 running OS 10.3.6. I'm using FontAgent Pro 2.3. This problem only pops up in Freehand MX. So, you can see I have several potential sources of the problem: the OS, the user's profile, the font, the font manager, and the design application. Thanks! Eric |

If you're still in the 90-day warranty period, call Apple Tech Support. |

i had this problem once and it turned out to be the printer. Check for an updated driver on the manufacturers website or try another printer. |

I have not called Apple Tech Support, yet. Their service is great, as long as the problem is reproduceable. This font problem occurs often, but not regularly. I'm afraid I would spend hours and days going back and forth with Apple, calling them every time it happens, and of course having them "fix" it by telling me to restart the computer. Also, I failed to mention earlier that this computer is off-site, so I can't monitor it all the time. Remote access is not available. I'll doublecheck the printer, but it happens even if I print to PDF, by any method (Save as PDF, export to PS and Distill, etc.) Thanks, eric |

There are known font problems with 10.3.6, the solution is to download 10.3.7 and that may end your problem. I am not familiar with fontagent, but we experienced funky stuff like yours with the puncuation with suitcase. So I am sure it is not the type handlers or the program (freehand). Jack E. |

For anyone who runs across this on the web, I have not found a sufficient answer to my question. The problem seems to be with Freehand MXa, and is listed as an "emerging issue" on their website at http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18893 (technote 18893). Their only solution is to convert to paths. I will post more information if I find it. Thanks, Eric |
