Hutton Gibson is actor Mel Gibson's father who served in the Army
during World War II at Guadalcanal.  What Battalion and Company was he
in ... what was his rank and duty ... and when did he arrive and leave
Guadalcanal?

There is no indication, based on searches I made, that Hutton was connected
with World War II or Guadalcanal. On the contrary, he is thought to have
moved his family to Australia, after winning $25,000 on Jeopardy, in order
to keep his sons from involvement in the Viet Nam conflict. It might assist
further research if you disclosed the resources which indicate Hutton's
involvement with the War.
