Hello Cocoa-ga, Thank you for this romantic question. The story you are referring to is of Nicolaï Petróvich Rezánov, Chamberlain to the Czar and Concepcion (Concha) Argüello, daughter of the commandant of the Presidio. You can read the history of this wonderful but sad love story here: The book California - Romantic and Resourceful by John F. Davis gives the story of Concepción de Argüello, and presents a poem by Bret Harte about her. This story inspired the creation of one of the most popular Russian rock operas, "Yunona and Avos"; the only reference I could find to it in English is on this site: http://www.yunona.org/yunona.htm |
