I have been suffering from gout for about 5 years now; I have tried all means(chinese/western mecidine, diet, exercise) of reducing my uric acid level in my blood but no luck. Last night, I was asked to try drinking raw potato juice. After extensive research, I'm semi convinced that raw potato juice could reduce the acid level in my body. I made some research and found the following warning: "They should also be omitted from the diet of those suffering from venereal diseases and those afflicted with aphrodisiac tendencies. The potato contains an alkaloid toxin known as solanine which affects the nerves controlling the sexual organs. The solanine poison is particularly prevalent in potatoes too green in color. The combination of cooked meat and potatoes too green in color. The combination of cooked meat and potatoes intensifies the solanine poison, which together with presence of uric acid crystals resulting from the ingestion of meat may cause excessive irritation of sexual organs" My question is if there is any side effect that I should be aware of and how effective is this method? Hope you can help. Thanks, Terence |

Hi Golfert, I am not a doctor but have a friend who thought he had gout, turned out to be Hemochromatosis, caused by excessive iron buildup in the body. The symptoms are similar to gout. You may be aware of this already, but check out Hemochromatosis on the web. Hope this helps. |

I recently researched gout for a friend, found nothing about potato juice but alot about cherry juice. Check out Dr. Mercola's web site below. ://www.google.com/custom?cof=AH%3Acenter%3BAWFID%3A5cdb2968a482194d%3B&domains=www.mercola.com&sitesearch=www.mercola.com&q=gout&sa2=Search+Mercola.com |

Interestingly, I also suffer from gout (under control with allopurinol), and happened to see an article in the Wall Street Journal about new Gout medications. Check out the following: Puricase - Savient Pharmaceuticals Febuxostat - TAP Pharmaceuticals Neither is available yet, but Febuxostat may be soon. |

thanks gopman-ga Since i've posted my question, i have stopped drinking raw potatoe juice (cause the taste is disguisting) and taking allopurinol because of the possible damage to the liver/kidney. Instead, I have been taking broemlain, quercetine and pure black cherry juice and uric level has gone from 590 to 540 in my most recent blood test. Maybe it's my imagination, my joints also seem to be smoother than before.. Anyway...try the supplements, if it works for you, you dont have to rely on allopurinol. T |
