Question ID: 46281
I am looking for a popular song of the (I think) 40?s or 50?s,
however, it could be older. The lyrics include ?I?m aware that our
love affair . . . ?, or something similar. I?m looking for the title
and the singer.

Hi hskolnik,

From your comment below, I think that bethc *has* found your song.

Here's the (awful) karaoke version:

Just One Of Those Things
http://mp3.zonebg.com/karaoke/c/Cole%20Porter%20-%20Just%20One%20Of%20Those%20Things.kar

...a full length performance by Dee Harrell:

Just One Of Those Things
http://artists2.iuma.com/dl/the_fabulous_Dee_Harrell/audio/the_fabulous_Dee_Harrell_-_JUST_ONE_OF_THOSE_THINGS.mp3

...and a clip of the lovely Lena Horne's performance of this classic
Cole Porter tune (this one is my favorite. I regret I can't find a
full length MP3 of Miss Lena online for you - I actually own this
song, sung by her, and adore it):

Just One Of Those Things - Clip
http://www.reelclassics.com/Audio_Video/Music7a/clips/horne_panamahattie_justoneofthosethings_clip.mp3

I've been unable to find anything else with lyrics similar to the ones
bethc listed - do the sound clips help?

Thanks, but this is not the song I am looking for. The one I seek has
a much slower tempo.

Hi hskolnik-ga:

Could it be "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" by Irving Berlin, sung
by Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas?

"My one love affair didn't get anywhere from the start"

Hi hskolnik,

Could it be: Just One Of The Those Things
(Cole Porter) 1929

It was just one of those things
Just one of those crazy flings
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things

It was just one of those nights
Just one of those fabulous flights
a trip to the moon on gossamer wings
just one of those things

If we'd thought a bit
of the end of it
When we started painting the town
We'd had been aware
that our love affair
was too hot not to cool down
So goodbye, dear, and amen,
Here's hoping that we meet now and then
It was great fun
but it was just one of those things

This is, of course, a much more recent version than 40’s or 50’s, but
many people have recorded this song through the years.

Beth

Thank you, but no. The song I am looking for goes something like this
. . .
"I'm aware that our love affair is too hot to ever cool down".
However, my memory is not clear and I could be off on the actual
wording. I do not remember any of the other words. I do recall the
melody, but I do not know how to communicate it to you. Thanks for
your help.

If you know the melody of the song, this is a very useful site that
makes it very easy to plunk around on a primitive online keyboard and
save the results:

http://www.findthatmelody.com/index.html

After you save your tune, you can post your "recording" on the site's
Find That Melody message board, where someone may recognize the song.

hskolnik:

Did you happen to notice the lyrics of song provided by bethc "It was
just one of those things" where the lyric is (there is a slight typo)
"....we'd have been aware that our love affair was to hot not to
cool down...." which only differs very slightly from your memory...and
I doubt there could be ANOTHER song that is as close....

The rhythm of this song goes something like this....Itwas JUST one of
those things.....JUST oneof those craaaazy flings....ONE of those
bells....that nowandthen rings....JUST oneof those things......Itwas
JUST one of those nights....etc....

The line you remembered would be:

we'dhave been aware....THAT our loveaffair....was to HOT.... NOT to
cool down.....

You can listen to a interpretation mp3 fragment at:

    http://www.chiaroscurojazz.com/albuminfo.php4?albumid=43

A complete "fast" vocal mp3 streaming version by Dee Harrell is
available at:

    http://artists2.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/the_fabulous_Dee_Harrell/

Give us some feedback as to whether this jogs your memory...

You might want to listen to the thoughtful, slow-tempo version of
"Just One of Those Things" sung by the late, great Susannah McCorkle
(from the CD "Easy to Love: The Songs of Cole Porter.")

Here are two links which offer brief audio clips from this wonderful
album:

Thank you for all of your help. It was "Just one of those things".
The tempo description by Seedy did the trick. It is interesting how my
"old" mind remembered that isolated fragment.
