What is the best way to get emails/contact info for reporters? I
would like to start blasting short email press releases, but I don't
know where to find this information. I need emails for reporters
across the country...

I do not want to find this info manually on each newspaper's website -
I want to purchase this sort of list, just don't know where to turn.

Hammer -

Well, particularly politics, but the list need not be so exclusive.

This sort of information is available for sale, but the publications
(which include journalists emails, phone numbers, etc) are costly --
several hundred dollars. Is this within range for you?

Yes, that is within range, but please provide a few different places
that sell them, and, if at all possible, indicate whether they appear
to be 'good' sources of this kind of database (ie, maybe there is a
review of them online, although probably not).

Chris

Hello Chris,

Thanks for gettng back to me on this so quickly.

The most authoritative source of news media contact information that I
am aware of is:

http://www.leadershipdirectories.com/nmyb.htm
News Media Yellow Book

When I worked in Congress several years ago, this book was on the
shelf of just about every media person of every Senator and
Representative. I think it is fair to say that it is the "Bible" of
media contact information.

As their site notes, the book lists contact information for more than
33,000 journalists at over 2,000 news organizations, and includes
email contacts for at least 21,000.

I strongly suggest you have a look at the sample page packet ... Just
click on the text that says: "Download a sample page packet" (link is
on the upper right).

Subscription information is at the bottom of the page, and appears to
start at about $400. Note that the information in the News Media
Yellow Book is available in several formats, both as print and
electronic versions.

My colleague, pinkfreud-ga, identified another very useful source in
the comment below. You can reach the same site at this link:

http://www.dr-411.com/products_media.asp?keywords=reporter

where you'll find pricing information, as well as a link to sample
database information, which requires providing your email address to
the site.

I have used other lists from dr-411 (of both doctors and lawyers) and
found them quite satisfactory, and while I can't personally vouch for
the media contacts list, I expect it will be of the same high quality.

However, it is clear from their description that this is a very
different sort of resource than than the News Media Yellow Book, as
the Yellow Book is big on context -- circulation data, photos, beats,
career tracks, etc., while dr-411 is a straightforward mass contacts
database. You'll have to be the judge as to which one best meets your
needs, but these are both good resources.

One or both of these resources should fully meet your needs.

However, before rating this answer, please let me know if you need any
additional information. Just post a Request for Clarification, and
I'll be happy to assist you further.

All the best,

This should be helpful, if you have the budget for it:
