Unfortunately the highest rated router in the Fine Woodworking reviews
is no longer being sold.

I just read an article in Fine Woodworking about combination routers,
plunging and with a flip of a lever - nonplunging - Skill was the best
value at around $100.00 bucks 2 1/4 hp as I recall. The best ranged
from Porter/Cable to Borsch. I believe the most expensive was 250.00
After looking over the ratings - they all were about the same. These
were kind of cool in that with a flip of a level the router became a
plunger, so to speak..... :) As far as quality of the cut - they all
rated the same. I think this was in Dec. issue.

The one I found the most interesting is the model made by Ryobi. The
reason is that it had the "D" shaped handle and came with a straight
guide. The top rated ones had options that needed or could be
purchased. Ryobi rated great in all the tests. Plus the price was
right..

I believe when you get up into the high end products made by
Porter/Cable or Borsch you're not going to go wrong.

Hi again, well I have the article. The article is about "Router Combo
Kits" in the Dec 2004 issue. Basically you get two routers for the
price of one. They come with interchangeable bases. Cool stuff.

Here are the results:
Best overall There are two:
Bosch 1617EVSPK Price $230.00
Porter Cable 895Pk Price $270.00
Best Value:
Skill 1825 Price $100.00

The problem with the skill is that it does NOT have a soft start
feature which keeps the router from twisting on start up.

I hope this helps.
