Hi Junebug - I am so sorry you are suffering from illnesses. I can understand why you want to apply for disability payments. Expertlaw, in the comments sections, was on the right track, but I think what you want to do is fill out the form that will permit Social Security to start to determine your eligibility. This form is found at the following address: B.E.S.T. - Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool http://best.ssa.gov/form.cfm?cfid=1453747&cftoken=39699472 One thing important to know is that there are two types of disability benefits. The first is Social Security Disability Insurance which is offered to people who have worked for a certain period of time and have paid social security taxes. The second is Supplemental Security Income which is based on financial need. See the web page (also given by expertlaw): Social Security Online Disability Programs http://www.ssa.gov/disability/ You may also want to review what you information you need to apply for disability payments. You can find them at: How to Apply for Disability Payments http://www.ssa.gov/disability.html Search terms used: ssa disability eligibility ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=ssa++disability+eligibility&btnG=Google+Search The first site mentioned brought me directly to the Social Security Disability page, after which I clicked on "How to Apply." These sites should start you on your way. The sites mentioned by pinkfreud in the comments section should also be helpful to you. I wish you the very best of luck. Alanna |

Official document - How to apply for Social Security Disability benefits - http://www.ssa.gov/disability.html Official tool - Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool - http://best.ssa.gov/ Please be aware that the Social Security Administration has something of a reputation for rejecting benefits claims the first time they are made, but approving them on reapplication or appeal. It can be an unpleasant application process. You may be able to get some advice or information on the application process from a health care provider, or from a legal aid office. |

These sites have many useful links specifically oriented toward fibromyalgia patients who are applying for SSDI benefits: http://www2.rpa.net/~lrandall/disabled.html http://pages.ivillage.com/kgil526693/portsmouthva_fms_cfidssupportgroup/id17.html |
