The statue is of Joseph Story, a former Harvard Law School professor
and Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court.
"The Hon. Joseph Story L.L.D., as it so happens, was an Associate
Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1811 until 1845. He
was also the head of the Harvard Law School from 1829 until 1845,
which accounts for his presence in Cambridge in early April. As a
Harvard Law School student I now pass by a marble statue of Justice
Story every time I enter the library."

"Before leaving Langdell Hall, walk to the main entrance of the
building, just a few steps from the Circulation Desk. In the entrance
foyer is the magnificent statue of Joseph Story, Harvard Law School
professor (1829-1845) and United States Supreme Court Justice
(1811-1845). The sculptor was Story's son, William Wetmore Story."
