What actually is a medical doctor with foreign qualifications?? Why considered to be a bit above MD in general practice medicine? Why would they be going into residency in this country if already a DR.? Would they be preparing for board licensing exams in order to practice in this country? | |

Googling Fifth Pathway or ECFMG should answer most of your questions. See, e.g.: http://www.fifthpathway.com/ecfmg.html http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/10255.html http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/9306.html |

In the USA the doctors union and medical colleges have kept requirements so high, The USA does not have enough doctors for proper medical care, so the USA does import doctors. This is a brain drain on other countries as the brightest and best want to prove that they can meet even the difficult USA standards. I think most intend to return to their own country when they come here, but decide to stay later. Many of these are excellent doctors with good attitudes. Neil |
