1. Can you find me a murex user group in the UK? Murex is a french company who
sell a highly sophisticated front to back office trading system. It
has nothing to do with welding or medicine or sea shells! I am
specifically interested in finding a user group relating to the murex
trading application (including MX-RATES OR MX-EQUITIES OR MX-G2000,
(MX stands for Murex))

According to http://www.murex.com the UK office is located at:

Styne House, ground floor
Upper Hatch Street
Dublin 2
Tel: (353) 1 43 98 500
Fax: (353) 1 43 98 501

I emailed Murex at info@murex.com and asked if there is a user's group
for Murex in the UK. I received the reply, "Unfortunately, not yet".

I also checked around for any independent groups of users/bulletin
boards online and found none. That's rather surprising for an
entrenched commercial product. If you can give me any guidance on how
to approach the question, please do.

Here's an interesting article about current Murex trends:

Sun Microsystems Java
http://industry.java.sun.com/javanews/stories/story2/0,1072,46494,00.html

The website does show the following upcoming events:

Oct. 16, 2002
FOW Stockholm
Come and visit us at Fow Derivatives Expo taking place on October 16
and 17th at the Grand Hotel

Sep. 30, 2002
SIBOS Geneva
Murex will take part in the Sibos Conference to be held at Palexpo
Center from September 30th till October 4th.

Sep. 17, 2002
FOW Singapore
For the second year in a row, Murex will exhibit at the Fow's 9th
Asia-Pacific Derivatives Exhibition on September 17 and 18th.

Sorry I couldn't find out more. But thanks for the question! If you
can give me some more guidance, I'll keep looking.

Rob, I understand your concern with the answer. I'll continue working
on this and see what else I can find out. Perhaps there are some
online groups I can come up with. Give me 24 hours to se what I can
find.

Thanks for your patience!

Hello prof-ga,

I thank you for your effort to date. I am aware of murex.fr i.e. the
people who make murex and appreciate that there appear to be no
official user groups. There must however be some bulletin board or
something in the contractor market i.e. people with murex skills who
are working for banks as contractors for example. Hopefully this may
give you another avenue?

Thanks

Rob,

This has been a crazy search! I first emailed murex back at
info@murex.com asking if there were any online support groups, or any
support groups. I received this reply from their business development
manager:

"As far as Murex is concerned we are not aware of such users group"

I then checked a database that searches tens of thousands of newgroups
for specific words. Although I found plenty of job postings, I
couldn't even find a discussion of the product. And to me, that's
unheard of.

To see for yourself, check out

Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/

which used to be deja.com. It's a great way to find out discussion
threads on specific subjects. Also, check out

Cyberfiber
http://www.cyberfiber.com/

which can do a search for a specific newsgroup subject.

Unfortunately, I can pretty much assure you with 100% certainty that
there is no online or UK-based Murex user/support group. This is
confirmed by Murex.

I generally don't like to officially answer questions where the answer
is "no". But in this case, I thought you'd appreciate knowing the lack
of resources you're faced with. My apologies if I jumped the gun. But
thanks for the question, and please come back!

Not a request for answer clarification but don't know how else to
reply to you.

Thanks for the effort and the info. I agree that it does seem
incedibly odd that there is no such group. I thought there were groups
for everything out there. Maybe I should start the group myself?!

Thanks anyway

Rob, thanks for your note. I do appreciate it. :) I hate to give up,
so if you can give me any more direction, please do.

By the way, if I were you I'd certainly start a newsgroup or bulletin
board for worldwide Murex users. Heck, charge a membership fee.

Thanks!

Jim

I started with www.ib-ug.com (investment banking user group) but I
didnt find the time to fill it with life. Anyway, technically it is
all there. There is a forum where people can start discussions on
murex issues. One of the missing parts is to invite Murex customers to
join. Kind regards, Markus Linke (www.linke.de)

A couple of German and UK banks started a User Group. They have a
mailing list hosted and sponsored by Markus Linke. To subscribe, send
